Hablará con Pérez Molina sobre narco y TPS
GUATEMALA – La secretaria de Seguridad Nacional de Estados Unidos, Janet Napolitano, visitará Guatemala la próxima semana para reunirse con el presidente de este país, Otto Pérez Molina, informó el sábado una fuente oficial.
La oficial Agencia Guatemalteca de Noticias (AGN), que cita a Pérez Molina, señala que Napolitano abordará con el mandatario guatemalteco el combate al narcotráfico y la solicitud del Estatus de Protección Temporal para los inmigrantes guatemaltecos.
“Es una visita de alto nivel. Esperamos abordar temas importantes para nosotros”, dijo el mandatario.
El día en que Napolitano estará en Guatemala, sin embargo, no fue precisado.
Pérez Molina no descarta que durante su encuentro con la alta funcionaria estadounidense se trate el tema de la despenalización de la droga que él ha propuesto y que ya ha sido rechazada por ese país.
Según la AGN, el presidente se reunió ayer con el embajador de Estados Unidos en Guatemala, Arnold Chacón, y trató su propuesta de la posible despenalización de las drogas como una estrategia para combatir el narcotráfico.
El jefe de Estado, dice la agencia oficial, manifestó que su propuesta no provocará choques ni distanciamientos con Estados Unidos.
“Este (su propuesta) es un tema que puede caminar únicamente si todos los países estamos de acuerdo, si hay solo dos o tres países que están de acuerdo sería muy difícil que esto se pueda dar”, señaló el mandatario.

US Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will visit Guatemala next week for talks on President Otto Perez’s bold proposal to legalize drug production and consumption, authorities said Saturday.
“This is a high-level visit. We hope to take up important issues for us, such as drug trafficking, (and) legalization of drugs,” Perez said late Friday after a meeting with US ambassador Arnold Chacon.
The meeting was his first since the president of this Central American nation unveiled his proposal on Monday after meeting with Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes.
Perez thinks the legalization plan should be adopted in all countries that are used as transit points as well as for production and consumption of illegal narcotics, for it to be effective.
The president told the state news agency AGM that Chacon understood “Guatemala’s position and that the issue will not create clashes or distancing between nations.”
According to US data, 90 percent of cocaine shipped from South America to the lucrative US market passes through Central American nations like his.
